I have just heard the new Kings of Leon album. It’s an unmitigated disappointment from start to finish. There’s a surf-rock song called ‘Beach Side’ and a country-stadium-rock song called ‘Back Down South’ – I’d think it was all a cruel joke if it wasn’t done so convincingly. Let’s listen to what we’ve lost.
Kings of Leon – Slow Night, So Long (YSI)

Aye, but to be fair it’s in an improvement on OBTN… just too little too late.
Kudos for choosing one of my favourite tunes from my favourite KOL album to show what it should have been

I have to disagree – at least on OBTN they were still trying. This seems like the worst kind of phoned-in, obligatory record contract shite imaginable to me.

ah, i remember when i first kings of leon–i had their EP before youth and young manhood even came out. now, kol is the devil’s music. well, i guess it always was… but now it’s in a bad way.

Just listened to it. I agree with you Joe, even worse than OBTN. Worse, I guess, by virtue of it being the same if you know what I mean? 2nd album different to the first and third different to the second. OBTN was a little middle of the road but still different. This latest one is the same style just a little less melodic and even fewer risks. At least the last record had “Crawl”.
