Just read this today, but hope I can help. Look up the following bands/artists to get started:

*Gram Parsons a/or The Flying Burrito Bros.

*Beechwood Sparks

*Mike Nesmith (yes, THAT Mike Nesmith!)

*The Flatlanders

*John Prine

*The Sadies

*Manassas

*Blitzen Trapper

Also, Dylan and Neil Young have songs/records that would probably qualify, as does Beck. Once you get going with those folks, you ought to be on your way!

Hey Joe - I'm all behind on my blogs and just saw this now, but it's like you took the words right out of my brain. I love that you wrote this, and the way you wrote it, because it makes me feel less like a quitter for feeling the same way about 100b. I love music, generally, more than nearly anything. But clearly not quite enough to have done the blogging thing for really real - and over time, I've become less and less interested in what's 'hot' and more interested in what's, well, interesting. I'm much more interested in music history now, rather than what's current / popular, but I just don't have the time or resources to get into it seriously. Plus, like you, I've ended up writing about something completely different (in my case, needlecrafts, with some occasional social ranting) and going off in that direction, which I do far better than I ever did music stuff.

All that said, yours was pretty much my favorite blog about music anywhere on the interwebs - your taste is, often, so similar to mine, I could always find a good recommendation here and, more importantly, you never wrote like someone who was *trying* to be cool. That's pretty much the highest compliment I can give. I'm sure you'll do the same in your new direction -- so so so much good luck with that, and congratulations on the job!

Also, I totally thought of you when I heard about the new Meursault album. :)
